Description

This is a special MacIntyre Aurelian vase by William Moorcroft, being the actual vase photographed in the major reference book: “Moorcroft Pottery, A Guide to the Pottery of William and Walter Moorcroft, 1897-1986.” by Paul Atterbury. It can be seen on Page 19. This was confirmed to me when I acquired the vase as the seller was a contact of Paul Atterbury’s.

This is the only angular vase of this kind I have seen and it displays incredibly well. With ragged, red poppies to centre, surrounded by crisp gilding and blue foliate designed in gilt outline, the centre is striking and the borders have segmented decoration of Japanese floral movement inspired blue fish scales together with other segments of gilt and delicate red flowers.

In fantastic original condition, the vase has the James MacIntyre Burslem England stamp together with the Reg No. 314901. William Moorcroft did not sign Aurelian Ware so this is consistent with other pieces made by him. It dates to approximately 1898. For any serious Moorcroft collectors, owning a stunning piece of Aurelian Ware is a must for your collection.

This piece will certainly not disappoint, especially with the provenance of coming from the major reference book on Moorcroft!
