Description

Offered for sale is a most delightful and rare Doulton Lambeth “Mouse on a Currant Bun” by renowned artist George Tinworth. In superb original condition and having never been restored, this tactile little mouse is hard not to fall in love with. In a rarer matt glaze, his little body is very realistic, with white mischievous eyes and alert ears making him look rather guilty as he holds the currant in his fingers. There is a depression in the currant bun in the front signifying where he has removed the currant. The bun is richly glazed as currant buns are, in contrast to his realistic little coat.

A similar mouse is illustrated on page 58 of The Doulton Lambeth Wares by Desmond Eyles and Louise Irvine:

In outstanding original condition, perhaps with only the slightest roughness to one ear probably from manufacture, this piece has been amazingly preserved over time. Marked with a clear “GT” by George Tinworth, and with the Doulton Lambeth “cog” stamp and the date 1884 present to the right of his tail, all is present and correct. This is an amazing addition to a serious collection which will not only delight, but become an endearing member of your collection without any doubt.
