Description

Now this is an interesting piece of Martin Brothers! With four delicately lobed handles, this “couldron-like” vase has been coloured dark brown and then lustre glazed. In hand, the vase sparkles with glitter-like metallic oxides bringing the surface alive. This has been hard to photograph but hopefully you get an idea!! As you get the lower section beneath the vase, you’re met with four stub feet and some sections of blistered over-firing, which doesn’t affect the colour of the vase but can be felt on the surface

This vase is a great collectable size – 10cm tall by 12.5cm wide! The vase is superbly signed and marked “11-1907, Martin Bros, London + Southall”.

This is an unusual shape with a rich brown lustre glaze and quintessentially Martin Brothers!

Martin Brothers pottery is one of the most famous and sought after potteries from the United Kingdom. Four highly eccentric brothers operated their pottery from the latter part of the 19th century into the early 20th century. Famous for their wally birds, face jugs and aquatic scenes, their pieces have an authenticity and a creativeness that is truly unique – often with a darker side as they explored the grotesque!
