Description
For sale is this delightful, small double gourd, long necked Aurelian vase by William Moorcroft for James MacIntyre, dating to around 1898.
This is a beautiful piece, with striking ragged, red poppies surrounded by bold, crisp gilding and dark blue foliage lined with gilt accents. The stem has panels of blue japanese-inspired fish scales from the floral movement at the time, alongside gold gilt panels decorated with delicate red flowers climbing the neck.
Offered in superb original condition, the vase is stamped with the James MacIntyre Burslem stamp and the Reg No 314901. No William Moorcroft signature as he did not sign Aurelian Ware. This is a great item to add to your Moorcroft collection signifying the marvellous early work William did, which would ultimately see him leaving MacIntyre to open his own legendary pottery which operates to this day. Dates to around 1898.
