Description
Organic and scultpural Martin Brothers insect vase – December 1900
For sale is this rare and exquisite example of Edwin and Walter Martins’ organic and sculptural artistry. The vase features five distinct segments, each showcasing a unique insect in the centre. These insects are rendered with remarkable realism, resembling a detailed zoological study. The lifelike depiction of each insect highlights their exceptional skill and attention to detail.
The vase’s color palette consists of subtle brown and cream tones, transitioning to an almost copper tone at the top. The top of the vase features a highly detailed organic and sculptural design, reminiscent of an exotic fruit. The segments at the top gracefully swoop down in multiple spines, converging at the base. This design not only enhances the vase’s visual appeal but also adds a dynamic, three-dimensional quality to the piece.
