Description
For sale is this delightful William Moorcroft Dawn pattern Bowl dating to circa 1928. Landscape patterns, including Dawn, Eventide and Moonlit Blue are all highly sought after and rare pieces for the collector and are considered prize pieces. This bowl has three wonderful blue trees to the centre of the bowl, set in sweeping blue hills with a richer blue foreground. To the sides, we see the Dawn pattern fish-scale effect set in parallel borders whilst beneath is a feast of 5 trees and rolling landscape to make the outer bowl as impressive as the interior! All the decoration is matt glaze typical of dawn pieces. A really delightful piece that displays so well on a discrete perspex stand or simple sitting on its foot!
Beneath the foot, we have William Moorcroft’s flash signature present and correct. Offered in original condition with no chips, cracks or restoration. There are a few aspects of condition for the buyer to note: The bowl would have originally had a pewter base attached, which has been previously removed without any impact to the ceramics. Further, there is a staining line to the two o-clock position of the main tree, some light spotting and some surface scratches. Close up photos are provided. Despite these aspects, the bowl displays incredibly well and would be a fitting landscape piece to add to any Moorcroft or Arts & Crafts collection. A perfect Dawn bowl like this would be double the price, so this represents good value for a Landscape piece.
