Eventide Lustred Flambe Vase by William Moorcroft

For sale is an extremely rare and sought after Eventide Iridescent Lustre Flambe baluster vase by William Moorcroft dating to circa 1925. Whilst fortunate to have owned various Eventide pieces, this is the first iridescent flambe vase we have acquired. Standing 16cm tall and 9.5cm wide, it is a wonderful size for the collector and in such a desirable shape. It’s decoration of trees is rich with a very light flambe used. Use of metallic oxides strengthens towards the foot base where the colour transforms to a magical metallic green!

As some may know, a fair number of unusual landscape flambe and lustre pieces didn’t always come out the kiln as desired. This process for these unusual pieces was managed by William Moorcroft alone. Unaided, he enjoyed seeing his experiments through the transmutation process. Some were very dark, with no definition for the trees, and they are less desirable. This piece, however, has been an absolute success in the kiln and therefore presents a rare opportunity for the serious collector!

The use of metallic oxides has made the vase highly reflective and therefore difficult to photograph. We have photographed it in natural sunlight at an angle to avoid reflections. We have also provided a few photographs under a weaker LED light where there is not a strong shadow present to show the variation across light sources, but also to reveal the strength of iridescence!

In stunning original condition with no chips, cracks or restoration guaranteed. Beneath the foot, all is present and correct with William Moorcroft’s flash signature and Moorcroft stamps. There are a couple of tiny pinhead light speckles underglaze – totally original – but noted nonetheless as well as light crazing throughout.
